DID YOU KNOW:
- Heart Disease is the #1 Killer of American Adults
- Heart Disease is the #1 Killer of WOMEN!
- Heart Disease kills one woman every 60 seconds
- One out of every 3 women will be effected by heart disease
These statements caught my attention -- and although I've always felt decent about myself and probably in pretty good shape, I really decided it was time to take a closer look. I visited the doctor and she confirmed I definitely needed to make some life changes.
After getting my numbers (cholesterol, blood pressure, resting glucose, and BMI), I started moving more - finding new and creative ways to get active. I started eating more fresh vegetables and fruit, more grains, nuts and beans! Less meat, dairy, and carbohydrates. Cut way back on processed foods....I really started using a whole different mind set. Instead of thinking about what I couldn't eat, I started thinking about what I could eat. It's been adventure and the results have been amazing! I've reduced my cholesterol! I've reduced my fasting blood sugar level (glucose)! I've reduced my BMI! I've lost 35 pounds!
I want to pass on the information - I want everyone to learn and know about the American Heart Association's Life Simple 7 - Seven steps to a Healthier Heart. So many of us have lost loved ones to heart disease and so much of heart disease is preventable. I am fortunate in that professionally I get to support this cause, this mission. I am personally convicted to share this message with my friends and family.... and ask you to join me in the battle of heart disease.
I've made a personal donation.... will you make one? It's easy ... every dollar will make a difference in the education and research of heart disease. Go Red For Women ensures more women are educated about the biggest health risk they face, and it ensures women are included in the research that had once only considered heart disease and "old man's" disease.
If you can't make a donation ... well, even if you can - please become educated on this disease. Do it for yourself, and do it for those you love. Pass on what you learn!
