2018 Phoenix Heart Ball
Nan Howlett graduated Cum Laude from the University of Southern California, then completed graduate studies in Economics in Belgium on a Rotary International scholarship. She finished her MIM at the American Graduate School for International Management, also known as Thunderbird, in her native Arizona.
Fluent in French, she worked for several divisions of L’Oreal Corporation in the USA and Europe from 1984 to 2000. From 1990 until 2000 she managed Duty Free sales for Lancome in Western Europe, Israel, and the Middle East. During that time, she initiated the Habitat for Humanity Program at the American Church in Paris, building homes in Eastern Europe. After her permanent return to the USA in 2001, she has become engaged in helping the community, and has served as Chairman for numerous galas. Key philanthropic projects have included The American Heart Association where she was a Heart Ball Sweetheart and is on the Governing Council, The Phoenix Symphony, O’Connor Institute , The Arizona Women’s Board of the National Kidney Foundation, Homeward Bound, March of Dimes, JDRF, HomeBase Youth Services, and Arizona Foundation for Women. The greatest joys in her life are her husband and best friend, C.A. Howlett, and her daughter Alexandra.

C.A. Howlett, senior vice president, public affairs, was responsible for government affairs and community relations with US Airways, a position he previously held at America West. He retired in 2011. Prior to coming to America West, Howlett maintained a government relations practice as a principal at the Phoenix law firm Lewis & Roca. He has more than 25 years of professional experience, which includes senior positions with Salt River Project, Chief of Staff to the Mayor of Phoenix, and the White House, where he served as Special Assistant to President Ronald Reagan for Intergovernmental Affairs.
Mr. Howlett is currently a Principal with Indigo Partners, LLC, a private equity firm specializing in venture capital investments. The firm prefers to invest in the air transportation industry. He currently serves on the Frontier Airlines Board of Directors, one of Indigo Partners’ portfolio investments.
Mr. Howlett has been a long-time Phoenix business and civic community leader, serving as chairman of the Arizona State Chamber of Commerce, the Phoenix Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce, the Fiesta Bowl, the Phoenix and Valley of the Sun Convention and Visitor’s Bureau, the Grand Canyon State Games and the Phoenix Symphony Orchestra. He has or currently serves on the board of directors of such organizations as the United States Chamber of Commerce, Arizona State Chamber of Commerce, Goldwater Institute, Barrow Neurological Institute Foundation, St. Joseph’s Hopsital Foundation, Tourism and Sports Authority, the Phoenix Theatre, the Scottsdale Convention Bureau, Valley Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Liberty Wildlife, the Vail Music Festival (BRAVO!) and the Sky Harbor Airport Advisory Board. He has also been active politically, serving on numerous presidential, senatorial, congressional and gubernatorial campaign committees, and currently serves as Chairman of a U.S. Senate campaign.
Mr. Howeltt is a recipient of several honorary recognitions and previous recipient of the U.S. Chamber’s Carol B. Hallett Award for Leadership, Excellence and Outstanding Contribution to the Aviation Industry.
Howlett received his master’s degree in public administration and his bachelor’s degree in political science and economics from the University of Colorado.
